Los Angeles has reportedly won the bid to host the 2028 Olympics, which will be the third time for Southern California after the 1932 and 1984 games. The last time the U.S. hosted the Olympics at all was Salt Lake City 2002.
Prior to that, the 2024 Olympics will most likely be held in Paris. The
International Olympic Committee reportedly got bids from both cities and chose to give them back to back experiences.
Los Angeles estimated that it would cost around $5.3 billion to host the game and thinks that it can be covered through sponsorships and ticket sales. L.A. will be given an immediate $180million advance to start preparing, which apparently includes putting $160 million into youth sports in the city.
Mayor Eric Garcetti explained.
“I want something for the people of L.A. now. I want the excitement to build.”
