The town of Beppu Japan is known for its hot springs, and earlier in the month the mayor of the town called for video submissions about potential designs for a “spamusement park.” Any video that reached one million views would be taken seriously.
Initially, the call to action was a bit of a publicity stunt, but now it seems as though they will be moving forward with real plans to build one. The video that first reached the one million views park shows passengers riding on a rollercoaster that has seats filled with water.
The mayor released a statement about the concept.
“I believe that, as one of the world’s best hot spring tourist spots, the appeal of having an onsen theme park in the town creates an opportunity for the citizens of Beppu, particularly young residents, to feel that ‘Beppu is fun’ and have a sense of pride for their hometown.”
He also discussed their plans to follow.
“Requesting input from a large number of people, to make creative onsen and draw up concrete plans, a task force and professional teams will now look towards making the Yu-enchi Project a reality and we would like to go forward with your support.”
