Japan Airlines has launched a “wan wan jet” charter service that will cater to dog owners and their dogs for a flight path between Narita Airport and Kagoshima Prefecture.
The flight is park of a larger package that includes a hotel stay at a dog-friendly hotel, plus meals, and the use of a rental car for $1,300.
The plane held 60 people and 30 dogs and sold out within an hour of first being announced. The initial flight was somewhat of a special occasion for the pet owners, and the high turnout means that the airline will be doing it again sometime this year.
Every airline has its own restrictions when it comes to flying with pets, but often it’s limited to companion animals or ones in small carriers.
