Italy is building some barriers around popular tourist attractions following the recent terrorist attacks. Just this weekend in Milan they built some around the Duomo cathedral, as and around the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.
Last week an attack in Barcelona took the lives of 13 people and wounded over 100. Similar attacks using trucks or vans to ram into crowds have taken part over the last year and a half in places such as Berlin, London, and France.
The Italian government has been increasing security measures over the past few years in a variety of ways. They have introduced 6,000 more troops to patrol the streets and have increased surveillance in general.
