Last weekend British Airways was forced to delay a variety of flights for what ended up a simple flip of the wrong switch. A maintenance worker was doing some work in one of the carrier centers are reportedly switched it off without knowing.
When the switch was flipped off it shut down the power to all of the airline’s computer systems which effectively shut down the flights as well. With the loss of power there were 75,000 people left unable to catch their flights.
Initially, the airline thought it was a power outage or something that caused the incident, but now they’re reporting that it was simply human error. The airline will be compensating passengers for their flights as well as any other transportation or hotel stays that they had to pay for after being stranded.
It’s expected that the mistake will cost British Airways between $102 million and $138 million.
