The historic Furnace Creek Resort in Death Valley National Park, is getting a long-awaited makeover worth $50 million. The upgrades will allow the resort to be open year-round, as opposed to the seasonal schedule it’s on now.
The resort has both a 66-room inn and a 244-room ranch, both of which will be getting some upgrades. One change will be the addition of 15 stand-alone casitas, which will be located near the pool and garden area of the resort.
The pool area will get a new wellness center which will include massage treatment rooms, a bigger fitness center, more poolside cabanas, and a new cafe by the pool as well.
The dining room will get a makeover, which will include decor changes as well as adding outdoor patio structures to create more space for guests to sit outside and enjoy the views.
The ranch will be redesigned in a Spanish Colonial Revival style to better match the resort, and in the process give up some of its Old-West style. What is now the Corkscrew Saloon will be getting a makeover as well, leaving it a larger bar with a dining area and general store.
In what is now a parking lot, a town square will be built to make the place feel more like a village.
The inn construction starts in May and will be closed until it’s done in October 2017. The work at the ranch begins in April.
