Google’s Street View feature in Google Maps has already offered a way to check out museums without actually going there in person. But now the feature will be adding on details such as information about the individual pieces of art.
The info will now automatically pop up when you’re viewing art within the program, offering the option to zoom in and click on the annotations for more information.
The Google search engines gets 500 million art related questions each month which is part of what prompted this extension.
Google’s product manager Marzia Niccolai explained the concept further.
“It’s not just about what the user has searched for, but taking them on a journey so that they can discover things that they never even knew they would like. Once we realized the demand was out there, we decided that this was something that was a very high priority for us.”
