Google is now rolling out a feature that can tell you how long your wait time would be at different restaurants. Starting Tuesday, the feature will offer the wait times at one million different restaurants on mobile and desktop searchers. Eventually, they will be added to Google Maps as well.
The information that they use to calculate the wait times is similar to the “popular times” graph they already offer. It’s built with historical data. In addition to restaurants, Google is also planning on adding in grocery stores in case you have some serious aversion to waiting in line when you run errands. The more you know?
Of course you can also just call the restaurant and ask how long their wait is if you want a really accurate estimate, and there are also apps that can help you out with this sort of thing. There are actually apps like No Wait that allow you to hop in line before you even arrive so you don’t have to worry about the wait time at all.
