France has moved to ban unlimited soda refills in an effort to fight obesity. Starting January 27, French schools, restaurants, and hotels will not offer soda fountains.
The obesity rates in France are still relatively low in comparison to other countries, but they have seen an increase and are trying to fight it.
In 2016 the World Health Organization released information in favor or creating a sugar tax, which France is following up on. This ban has also included getting rid of soda machines in schools and limiting the servings of certain junk foods like french fries.
In France, 41 percent of women and 57 percent of men between the ages of 30 to 60 are obese or overweight.
