Despite this year’s Orlando nightclub shooting and the Zika virus outbreak, Florida seems to be on track to hit some record numbers in tourism.
On Monday, Florida’s Governor Rick Scott announced that the state saw 85 million tourists in the first nine months of the year, and if that pace is kept up they will hit a new record total for the entire year. He shared the news during a press conference at the Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens.
“Visit Florida does an incredible job of marketing our state and keeping all of our tourism partners, which include both large and small businesses, updated on how to keep our visitors informed when our state faces challenges like the Zika virus, hurricanes and the terrorist attack at Pulse Nightclub.”
Since taking office Governor Scott has increased the spending for Visit Florida by $80 million dollars. Some people question the tactic of using so much state money on advertising, but the plan seems to be working.
