Beach towns are known for being a bit above the average cost thanks to their proximity to the water. Montauk, on New York’s Long Island, is currently the most expensive beach town in the U.S. This information came from a survey conducted by CheapHotels.org.
Currently, the lower room rate average for a double room in a Montauk hotel is $312. Nantucket, Massachusetts averaged in at $285, while Cannon Beach, Oregon was $262. Santa Monica was in fourth at $261, followed by Coronado at $221, and Santa Barbara $209.
Unsurprisingly California had the most beach towns on the list since by size and location it just happens to have a lot of them. Others areas that were high on the list include Poipu, Hawaii, and Kennebunkport, Maine. The demand for beach stays is as high as ever.
