Europe will soon have its very first underwater restaurant called Under, and it’s going to be shaped like a whale. The restaurant will be located in the village of Baly on the southern coast of Norway.
The building will actually be about halfway underwater, with 16 feet of it submerged. The submerged portion will have a window 36 feet across that looks out into the ocean. The rest of the building will be visible above land.
The dining room will hold around 80 to 100 people at a time, who will be served food Danish chef Nicolai Ellitsgaard Pedersen. Interestingly when the restaurant is not in use for dining, it will be used as a marine research center.
The building might also help life in the area. After a while, the concrete building “will become an artificial mussel reef that functions dually to rinse the sea and naturally attract more marine life to its purified waters.”
