Most domestic airlines have been ranking higher in quality on the Airline Quality Rating report. The report looks at things like how often flights arrive on time and how many complaints they get.
The top-ranked domestic airline this year was Alaska Airlines, which saw a jump in on time arrivals and a drop in mishandled bags. The study’s co-author Dean Headley explained that the quality increase also leads the airlines to make more money.
“The whole industry as a group got better. That’s a good thing for the consumer. Certainly, the airlines have been making money hand over fist in the past two to three years. At least they seem to be trying to do something for the flying public.”
While most airlines ranked higher in 2016 than 2015 there were three did not, Hawaiian, JetBlue, and Virgin America. However, those airlines still remain in the top five most popular airlines.
