Delta Airlines has canceled a Boeing plane order that was worth $4 billion. After Delta purchased Northwest Airlines in 2008 they made a deal with Boeing to order 18 of their Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, but now the deal is off.
Delta’s senior vice president Greg May released a statement on the airline’s website.
“Delta is one of the world’s largest operators of Boeing aircraft and our valued partnership with Boeing will remain strong as we safely and comfortably serve our customers across the world every day. This business decision is consistent with Delta’s fleet strategy to prudently address our widebody aircraft needs.”
Officials at Delta have also said that the increase of flights being offered from other competing airlines has affected their revenue per unit.
