Cuba has announced that they will be heading into five days of military drills to prepare for “a range of actions by the enemy.” This is the seventh time that Cuba has announced the Bastion Strategic Exercise, which generally occurs when the United States is going through a period of tension.
The state run newspaper announced the news as follows.
“… Maneuvers and tactical exercises will take place with the participation of Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) units, the Ministry of the Interior, and other components of the defense system, including the movement of troops, materiel, aviation, and explosives in the cases where this may be required.”
Donald Trump has expressed his desire to reverse the work that Obama did opening the relationship between the two countries, unless President Raul Castro agrees to more political freedom on the island.
When asked if Trump would break things off, he said “whatever you have to do to get a strong agreement. And people want an agreement, I like the idea of an agreement, but it has to be a real agreement. So if you call that for negotiation purposes, whatever you have to do to make a great deal for the people of Cuba. So important.”
