For the third year in a row, a lovable Great Pyrenees named Duke has won the Cormorant, Minnesota mayoral election. The nine-year-old pup is extremely popular among his constituents, and actually won the election largely unopposed.
First elected in 2014, Duke handily beat his competition, local store owner Richard Sherbrook, to take home the honors. According to reports, Duke has maintained a high standard of quality during his time in office. One Cormorant resident, Karen Nelson, proclaimed, “I don’t know who would run against him because he’s done such great things for the community.”
That sentiment seems widespread. Duke’s owner, David Rick, told reporters that everyone in the small town voted for his shaggy beast, except for one vote, which was cast for Duke’s girlfriend, Lassie. Whether or not this one measure of dissent will cause trouble for the political couple moving forward remains to be seen. At present, though, Duke and his entire campaign staff are committed to making sure the Pyrenees’ reign continues to run smoothly.
In a world where our major political choice is between a untrustworthy politician and a blowhard businessman, voting for team dog actually seems like a smart move.
