Some U.S. congressmen want to ban American travel to North Korea. If enacted the North Korea Travel Control Act would require Americans to get a license from the Treasury Department before being granted permission to visit the country.
The concept is similar to the restrictions on travel to Cuba, and tourists would not be able to get a license.
The Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff released a statement about the idea.
“In recent years, there has been an increase in tourist travel to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) by citizens of Western countries, including the United States. With increased tensions in North Korea, the danger that Americans will be detained for political reasons is greater than ever.”
