The airline information technology company SITA has released data about how many bags the airlines lose in a year. Luckily for travelers, the overall number is down 12.5 percent compared to last year, but connection flights are still the riskiest.
Around 47 percent of all lost bags are lost while in the process of being transferred between flights. Airlines are starting to use more advanced technology to track bags, however, so those numbers and expected to keep dropping.
Ilya Gutlin the SITA president spoke about the topic.
“It is frustrating for passengers and airlines when bags go missing but the days of not knowing where your bag is will soon to be a thing of the past. We are on the brink of a new era in airline baggage management because the world’s airlines are committing to track baggage throughout its journey.”
