China has reportedly launched a “toilet revolution” to improve the toilet situations in tourist areas in an effort to increase tourism.
The project is a collaboration between China’s National Tourist office, Tourism Australia, and two of China’s biggest airlines, and it is a part of a bigger project to increase tourism that will last between 2016 and 2020.
There is $290 billion invested in the project overall, which includes the 100,000 toilet upgrades. Estimates state that Chinese tourism could grow by 14 percent during the improvement period.
The Chinese government also has plans to bring tourism to the northern industrial cities by turning old mines and lots into parks and recreational spots.
