A cafe in Chicago has banned all laptops to encourage more “books and conversation.” Kibbitznest is located in the city’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and has set up some rules that they hope their guests will follow.
There is no wi-fi available in their “book bar” and they ask that even smartphone usage be limited. Laptops must remain in their cases. They also have a typewriter on hand in case someone needs to type some stuff out while they aren’t allowed to use their computers.
The sales from their menu go to the Kibbitznest nonprofit, which hosts events to “emphasize an appreciation of the liberal arts and include collaboration with colleges, museums, educators, writers, artists, cultural centers and other nonprofits.”
