The Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Jamaica has opened the first ever speakeasy in the Caribbean region. The speakeasy is called the Rabbit Hole, and the upscale lounge even has a password that is required to enter.
The lounge pays homage to all things speakeasy, with low lights, flapper girls, and jazz musicians. The bar in the Rabbit Hole offers a wide selection of drink options, including six different liquors that aren’t available anywhere else at the resort. That, and all of the drinks are free. Guests can test out all of the Moscow Mules, Sidecars, Knob Creek Manhattans, Negronis, and “Redneck Lemonades.”
Ricky DuQuesnay, the Group Manager Food and Beverage at Sandals Resorts International spoke about the decision.
“In about 2008 when the cocktail renaissance got really big in the US and around the world, and people were coming up with more creative, out-of-the box cocktails, more speakeasies came about. We kind of jumped on it.
“You will see speakeasies in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago and major cities like London, and we decided that we could do that concept within Sandals and be very successful as the first all-inclusive resort to have a traditional speakeasy bar concept in the resort.”
