Canada is now introducing the option to select a gender neutral option on their passports. In addition to “M” or “F” people can now simple mark “X.”
The Minister of Immigration Ahmed Hussen released a statement about the new option and their interest in promoting equality.
“All Canadians should feel safe to be themselves, live according to their gender identity and express their gender as they choose. By introducing an ‘X’ gender designation in our government-issued documents, we are taking an important step towards advancing equality for all Canadians regardless of gender identity or expression.”
The Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been an advocate for the LGBTQ community and appointed someone in office specifically to the cause.
