As if the film The Shining wasn’t terrifying enough, the fact that it was based on real events makes it even more so. But if that’s something that you find appealing, then you might jump at the chance to stay at the actual hotel that inspired the Stephen King book that later became Stanley Kubrick’s film.
The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado is considered very haunted by many people, and was where Stephen and his wife Tabitha stayed alone one night in 1973. One spooky night. The Stanley Hotel actually seems pretty proud of its haunted legacy and offer nightly ghost tours, that shows guests where their most likely to get in on the ghost action.
The fourth floor is where the children’s voices can be heard, and presidential suite is said to be haunted by a housekeeper who was once electrocuted there. That’s the room that Stephen King stayed in, so book at your own risk. In addition to the tours the hotel also gifts its guest REDRUM mugs, because of course they do.
Throughout the second half of October the hotel starts gearing up for the Halloween season, with events like the Twin Terror Weekend, The Shining Ball with costumes required, iHeart Media’s Boo Bash, and a Halloween Masquerade Party.
