Beijing has plans to turn all of their taxis electric in an effort to make the city more green. Government officials are behind the push, hoping to reduce the pollution from the thousands of cars.
A report states:
“All newly added or replaced taxis in the city of Beijing will be converted from gasoline to electricity, according to a draft work program on air pollution control for Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and surrounding areas in 2017.”
The costs of doing this would be around $1.3 billion dollars, since not only will they be replacing the taxis but the electric car replacements tend to cost around double of the gasoline versions.
The pollution in China gets to hazardous levels to breath, so they’re willing to start taking some hazardous steps towards changing that.
