Bangkok has come out on top as the most popular travel destination of 2015, beating out 132 other cities including London, Paris, and Dubai. This information was gathered by an annual ranking performed by Mastercard.
Yuwa Hedrick-Wong, who is the Mastercard chief economist, doesn’t think it will be the last time that the city comes out on top either.
“It isn’t a flash in the pan. Bangkok is in a strong position to be the top destination city for a long time. There’s the value for money, especially for visitors coming from high-income countries.”
Bangkok is expected to have 21.47 million international visitors this year, with the city of London a bit behind at 19.88 million visitors. The Asia Pacific is currently considered a very dynamic area for international travel growth, followed by the Middle East and South America.
The report went on to explain:
“The growth trajectories of many of the destination cities are becoming increasingly diverse as they tap into new sources of growth (feeder cities) within as well as outside their own region. Look at the juxtaposition of the current top ranked destination cities with the fastest growing ones at both the global and regional levels and see a dynamic picture of changing pace and patterns of growth.”
