The Bahamas were hit incredibly hard by Hurricane Matthew this week, but reports say that everyone there is doing fine. On Thursday people who were visiting the island had to head for protection at places like the Atlantis Paradise Island, and Sandals Emerald Bay Great Exuma.
The guests were taken into the convention center at the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, where they were provided with food, water, and activities to make it safely through the storm. Guests were allowed to leave the sheltered area Thursday night after the storm had passed, but they were not allowed to go back to their rooms until the hotel staff has assessed them for damage and made sure that were safe to return to.
Many locals on the island also had to head to the resorts for shelter, along with places like churches and schools where there were supplies being handed out.
Atlantis was tweeting updates throughout the storm to let people know what was happening, and were expecting to continue taking new guests as normal when the storm passed. The RIU Palace Paradise Island on the other hand, which is located next to Atlantis seemed to have some severe room damage.
