Food in Australia is known to be somewhat unique, and their latest creation certainly sticks with that theme. The “hamdog” is basically a burger with a hot dog down the middle, which is put inside of a patented bun that accommodates both of the shapes.
The idea for the hamdog came from the mind of Mark Murray, an entrepreneur in Perth. He first unveiled his idea on the Australian version of the TV show Shark Tank, but he was denied the funds because they thought it would be hard to get a patent lawyer. However Mark was successful at getting a U.S. patent in 2009, and now has secured one in Australia as well.
Mark thinks that the hamdog has a ton of potential, since they have already started to get some special requests.
“We’ve had requests of all sorts for gluten free, vegan and vegetarian Hamdogs. Once the product is out there and that process is sorted, we’ll start experimenting.”
He also thinks that the show host who denied will be sorry when she sees what he has accomplished on his own.
“Even [Shank Tank judge] Janine Allis told me that it was impossible to patent. She’ll be eating her words now.”
