Amtrak is getting ready to welcome a lot of travelers over the Thanksgiving holiday. They’re planning to have all of their cars up and running over the holiday but are still suggesting that people book their seats in advance to make sure that they actually get one. They will be selling out.
Amtrak will actually be adding more routes than normal to meet the demand. Routes between Boston and Washington, D.C. as well as those between Boston and Washington, D.C./Virginia areas will have some extra times scheduled. Many midwest routes will have additional trains added.
Last year 760,755 people rode on Amtrak over the Thanksgiving holiday, and this year the numbers are expected to be similar. Amtrak recently put in about $17 million towards upgrading their existing trains, so for many people this year’s Thanksgiving journey could be appealing than those of the past. Some of the upgrades include changes to bathrooms, curtains, carpeting, etc.
