Amtrak’s President and CEO Wick Moorman has requested that the Senate Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security put more money into the company.
They are seeking more money for the infrastructure of the company as well as the fleet and stations. Amtrak had a record number of riders in 2016, but they are intending to grow even more in the coming year pending they get a bit of support.
Wick released a statement about the company’s current needs, such as updating bridges and tunnels.
“The time is now to invest in our aging assets. More than ever, our nation and the traveling public rely on Amtrak for mobility, but the future of Amtrak depends on whether we can renew the cars, locomotives, bridges, tunnels, stations and other infrastructure that allows us to meet these growing demands.”
