L.A.’s Hotel Cecil was the inspiration behind the fifth season of American Horror Story, and now the building is being considered for a historic-cultural monument status.
The application part of the process has been approved, and now the Planning and Land Use Management Committee will decide whether to send it forth to City Council for an official vote.
The hotel is being considered because the architect Loy L. Smith who designed was an important architect of the early 20th century.
The hotel has been well known for quite some time. During the Great Depression the hotel became dubbed “The suicide” on account of the many people who took their lives there, and at one point the hotel was also home to serial killer Richard Ramirez. More recently the hotel was the site of the mysterious disappearance and death of a woman named Elisa Lam in 2013.
