American Airlines has announced that they will begin training their employees to spot and save sex trafficking victims. The International Labor Organization has reported that around 21 million people are currently trapped in forced labor and the travel industry has a chance to help stop it.
American Airlines is working with a non-profit called ECPAT-USA (End Child Prostitution and Trafficking.) Through the collaboration, they will be training their 120,000 employees as well as enforcing corporate policies.
Michelle Guelbart, the director of private sector engagement at ECPAT-USA explained that this happens closer to home than most people realize.
“People think this is only happening in other countries. They don’t realize it could be happening on a domestic carrier on a domestic flight.”
Delta Airlines and Volaris are both already working on similar programs with ECPAT.
