American Airlines is updating its wardrobe for the first time in 30 years. The airline is the world’s largest commercial air carrier, and now its 70,000 employees are getting new uniforms.
The new uniforms make this the first time that all of their employees will be wearing a unified look, from the desk agents, to the pilots, and the flight attendants. The airline recently merged with U.S. Airways, and until now there was a mixture of the uniforms from both of those companies being worn.
To come up with a new uniform they mixed the color palettes that have been used for years in the individual brands, and came up with slate gray, cobalt, and white.
The company’s American director of global marketing Brady Byrnes explained how meaningful the update is for the company.
“It really shows us as one brand. And that was really the only thing that was still kind of lagging behind for customers—being able to see that come together. It’s a huge milestone for us.”
To design the new uniforms, the company asked for the input of their current employees who know better than anyone else what works with comfort and functionality.
