American Airlines went and added a bag tracking feature to their website that allows people to see where their bags are in real time.
A spokesperson for the airline said that “It’s something our customers have been asking for a really long time, and we’re excited to make this available to them.”
The new feature was actually launched in August but wasn’t publicly announced until the airline could give their employees time to get used to the system.
Between the check in and the baggage claim there are six different checkpoints where the bags will be scanned and entered into the system.
Once a fliers bags have been checked at the airport, they can log onto the American Airlines website and click on the “Track Your Bags” section. From there they can enter their name, record locator, or the bag tag number and the website will show exactly where the bag is at that time.
This should help reduce lost luggage overall.
