According to some new research conducted by Swiss scientists, the Alps are in danger of losing 70 percent of their snow cover by the year 2100.
The study, which was published in the European Geosciences Union (EGU) journal The Cryosphere pointed out that the low snowfalls over the past few years are expected to continue to decline.
The current state of greenhouse emissions would put the Alps at losing 70 percent of the snow, but if those emissions are kept in check that number could go down to around 30 percent. To stay that low, however, it would require Paris closely following the new climate agreements.
The snow loss would be a bummer for everyone, but it could ruin the economy of some of the smaller towns in the area that rely heavily on snowbound tourists.
