Hurricane Matthew is throwing some kinks in a lot of people’s travel plans, and certain airlines are starting to offer waivers for the people who are being affected by its path. This can allow people to change their flights without being charged like they normally would.
Typically many domestic flights charge $200 to change flights last minute, and internationally that number can increase even more.
United Airlines has announced that it will waive the fees for flight changes as well as the differences in ticket prices for any flights scheduled between Wednesday and Friday through five different airports in Florida.
Delta airlines is waiving just the flight change fees at eight different Florida airports through Thursday and the Caribbean through Wednesday, and American Airlines is doing the same in the Caribbean areas through Thursday.
On Tuesday the hurricane hit Haiti and the latest predictions from the National Hurricane Center think that it will hit the U.S. somewhere near the border of South and North Carolina on Saturday morning. State of emergencies are currently in effect in Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
It is not entirely possible to predict the path of the storm, and even if it veers and doesn’t hit people on the east coast can expect some its wind and waves.
