Allow us a moment to make a rather morbid observation. If there’s one minor benefit to the seemingly rampant number of terror attacks currently assailing people across the globe, it’s that the travel industry has never been more affordable in recent memory. It’s a tragic benefit, but a benefit nonetheless. As the hospitality people reflexively lower their prices, the adventurous traveler can get to parts unknown for cheaper than ever before.
Experts predict that airfare prices — should the current trend continue as it has — will drop 8.2 percent by October. That means that the average round trip airfare of a domestic flight will only be $213.
The price of oil and gas comes into play with airfare, as well. In July, the price of jet fuel dropped 7 percent, meaning fuel is as cheap as it was in 2009. That equates to a hefty savings for the airline industry. It’s entirely possible that consumers might see some of those savings passed along in the near future.
If you have to travel anywhere, especially for the holiday season, it might be wise to hedge your bets and wait just a little bit longer before you plunk down airfare.
