The northern California wine region recently experienced some massive fire damage, but it’s still actually a good time to visit the region. While around ten wineries were severely damaged by the fires, there are 1,200 wineries in the Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties, most of which are in great shape.
Catherine Bartolomei, the proprietor of Sonoma County’s Farmhouse Inn explained that it’s actually a great time to visit.
“The irony is that this is one of the most amazing autumns we’ve ever had. The vines are red and yellow and gorgeous with fall colors, the skies are crystal clear, the sunsets are gorgeous. I don’t want to diminish what people are going through there, which is awful. But overall, Sonoma County, Napa Valley — people have heard it’s all burned to the ground, but 91 percent of the area is completely unaffected.”
