In 2016 airlines launched over 3,000 new routes, a trend which is expected to continue into 2017 as well. However, the 3,042 new services is actually a drop from 2015 when there were 3,109 services launched.
Europe’s Ryanair had the highest flight increase for the past year, with 200 new flights launched. With 106 new flights was easyjet, followed by Wizz Air with 100.
Of the top 20 airlines on the list, a whopping 13 of them were European airlines, but the majority of the actual new routes were introduced in the United States.
American airports got 916 new flights, while the runner-up of Spain got 395. About half of those routes were totally brand new.
