Your kids will leave entertained, and you’ll definitely have a ball, too. So be sure to add these 13 activities to your to-do list for your next family vacation to the Czech Republic.
1. Mirror Maze
A miniature castle located on Petrin Hill is home to Mirror Maze – one of the top tourist destinations in the capital city. The walls of mirrors will definitely trip your kids out, and they’ll have hours of fun making funny faces and trying to make their way out of the dizzying maze.
2. Railway Kingdom
Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean your kids can’t gain a history lesson. The Railway Kingdom is all about the history of the railroad and trains of the Czech Republic. Various exhibits give an in-depth peek into the entire system. There’s also a train that runs through beautifully decorated landscapes with miniature buildings remodeled after Prague Central station and the Karlstejn castle.
3. Old Town Square
In the center of Prague, you’ll find Old Town Square – a historic area that was built in the 14th Century. You and the kids will have some nice, relaxed fun as you stroll through the area and take in all the sights. You’ll eventually run into the Gothic Church of Our Lady before Týn and the stunning Prague Orloj – the world’s third-oldest medieval astronomical clock. The architecture in Old Town Square is breathtaking, so get your camera ready to capture the perfect shot!
4. Prague Castle
This is the perfect place for your kids to take a look at a real life castle! This historical piece of world history was constructed during the 9th century. The ornate building not only looks like a jewel on the outside, but it’s the home of the Bohemian Crown Jewels, too! Make sure you visit around 12:00 so the entire family can witness the official changing of the guards.
5. Sea World
For a great family outing, Sea World is the place to visit! The underwater aquarium has a host of fish, corals, turtles and other marine life. You can watch the shark feeding or visit the multimedia area to peruse the various plants and fish swimming behind the big glass aquariums. They also have night tours available, and if you show up at the right time, you watch the attraction’s nurses tend to some of the sea animals right before your eyes.
6. Slovansky ostrov
Slovansky ostrov, also known as Zofin Island, was created in the 18th century. Even today, it’s still considered one of the most popular and entertaining destinations for tourists. You’ll find that there’s no shortage of things to do here, including outdoor theaters, social events, and an exhibit hall full of art. Travel to one of the beaches and enjoy the sunshine, or take your kids to the nearby playground to burn off some energy.
7. Kastanek Playground
Speaking of playgrounds, Kastanek has enough toys, swings, and climbing structures for children of all ages. The tram is the highlight of the entire area. It’s full of musical instruments, and it also has a telescope that your kids can use to explore the scenery.
8. Prague Zoo
There’s a reason why Prague Zoo is considered to be one of the best zoos in the world. Opened back in 1931, the sprawling attraction houses over 4,000 animals with botanical gardens as the backdrop. When you’re not bonding with the animals in the petting zoo or goofing off on the playgrounds; you and the family can enjoy some lunch in one of the park’s restaurants or do a little bit of shopping in the boutique.
9. Charles Bridge
Located in Old Town district, Charles Bridge gives amazing views of Prague, and your kids will have fun exploring the structure. They can climb all over the bridge to get a better view of Vltava River or they can relax in front of one of the many street musicians. Vendors also line up along the sidewalks to sell trinkets that you’ll definitely want to take home as souvenirs.
10. PKF for Children
Calling all music lovers! The PKF for Children contains a philharmonic orchestra that puts on amazing concerts for kids in the Dvořák Hall. The entertainment is all kid-friendly, of course, with special performances focused on children’s classic books and fairy tales.
11. Lennon Wall
Following the death of music legend John Lennon, political activists scrawled intricate and colorful graffiti on a wall that’s now known as Lennon Wall. The messages include The Beatles’ song lyrics and grievances written by young Czechs of the 80s who formed a political movement called “Lennonism.”
12. Loutky Marionettes
You can’t visit the Czech Republic without bringing home a marionette or two! These souvenir shops are located all around Prague, but Loutky Marionettes is a favorite among tourists. The handcrafted puppets are made of plaster or wood, and they’re a huge part of Czech culture. You’ll even find a few that are designed after popular figures, including Harry Potter and Pinocchio.
13. Harfa DinoPark
Travel back to the Mesozoic Era while visiting Harfa DinoPark. Located on the roof of the Gallery Harfa Shopping Centre, the exhibit includes life-size replicas of dinosaurs, as well as a paleontological playground where your kids can dig for dinosaur bones! You can purchase tickets to a 4D Cinema to see a movie about a baby dino who’s trying to navigate its way through life. And don’t forget to check out the Journey to Earth’s Past – a collection of artifacts from the Proterozoic to today.
