American Airlines has delayed the beginning of their premium economy cabins until later in 2018.
Initially, American’s president Robert Isom announced that the option would be available June 2018, but on Thursday American’s chief financial officer Derek Kerr explained that the seating option will be available by the end of next year.
“We will be able to sell premium economy across the entire fleet internationally by that time.”
The concept behind the premium economy class is that passengers can get access to wider seats with more legroom than normal, complimentary on-demand entertainment, free adult beverages, power outlets to charge electronics, USB ports, and amenity kits. They will also be able to board earlier than other passengers.
The changes to cabin seating options are expected to pull in $1 billion in additional revenue by 2020.
