Air India announced that they will begin fining passengers who act out and cause the plan to be delayed in the process.
If a passenger acts in a way that delays the flight for an hour they will be charged $7,750. Somewhere between one and two hours will cost $15,500, and anything above that will cost them $23,260.
The airline explained that these numbers are “a symbolic amount” and aren’t specifically relevant to any costs that delaying the plane causes the airline. They are putting these new fines into effect after some recent incidents where people would not cooperate for takeoff.
One of those situations involved someone refusing to leave the emergency row when they were deemed incapable of providing the services needed to sit there. Another involved some politicians who were not getting their requested seat change and ended up in a sandal beating.
This year Air India was named the third worst airline in regards to flights being on. (Or not.)
