The ridesharing service that Uber provides has now been banned in all of Italy. A lawsuit was filed by Italy’s big taxi companies with the claim that Uber creates unfair competition. The judge ruled in favor of the taxis.
In addition to being banned from the country, the company has also been banned from advertising in there. This is the first time that Uber has been banned from an entire country, although it has been limited in certain European countries.
Taxi drivers in Italy have done many anti-Uber protests which have included two strikes. One of the strikes lasted for six days and caused some issues with the local police.
Uber’s Italy unit has plans to appeal the ruling in attempts to get some of their rights back and is reportedly “shocked” by the outcome.
