The Hawaiin islands are getting a statewide beach cleanup for the first time ever. The project is being led by champion surfer Kai Lenny who will be paddling through the chain of Hawaiian islands.
Kai will be accompanied by adventure filmmaker Alison Teal to lead the clean-up as an initiative from Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii and The 5 Gyres Institute. It will start and ending in Oahu. Stops along the way will include Kauai, the Big Island, Maui, Lanai, and Molokai. The whole thing will take place from March 25 to March 31.
The stops are focused on the beaches who need it the most and all residents and any visitors there at the moment are encouraged to take part. The project aims to bring awareness about how important it is to keep the beaches clean and to keep plastic out of the water.
