Airbnb has been accused once again of allowing the growth of illegal hotels according to the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
According to one of their studies, 81 percent of the company’s revenue comes from rentals where the owner is not home at the time of rental since they own multiple homes.
The AHLA president and CEO Katherine Lugar released a statement about their findings.
“This report provides a stark contrast to the picture that Airbnb presents to policymakers and the public and sheds light on why the company has largely refused to take even basic steps to stop illegal hotel operators, because these actors drive the overwhelming — and growing — portion of its revenue. Today we are calling on Airbnb to finally come clean, tell the truth to the communities where it operates and crack down on the illegal hotels that it facilitates.”
