Antarctica has hit a record high temperature of 63.5 degrees. The World Meteorological Organization announced the news on Wednesday.
The temperature record was actually set on March 24, 2015, but was just found thanks to a scanning of records by the Esperanza Argentina research base on the north tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.
The warm temperature was partly due to a jet stream that brought up warm air from South America. Climate change has been affected the area for years. A recent study done by the University of Delaware found that the increasing temperatures could wipe out 60 percent of the Adélie penguin population within ten years.
