For the fourth month in a row, the hotel industry in Florida has continued to see a decrease in visitors. The decline has to do with the outbreak of Zika in the area, the shooting at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and an increase in hotel rooms that can no longer be filled.
Overall the Miami-Dade hotel market brought in ten percent less business than the year before, and the Broward market brought in five percent less.
Despite the recent challenges, there is hope that things will start to turn around. Rolando Aedo, the chief marketing officer at the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau seems confident that things are heading in a more popular direction and that the dip in visitors was temporary.
