China has set out to build a vertical forest in Nanjing called the Nanjing Green Towers. The building will be a similar style to the vertical forest building in Milan which has levels of “green tanks and balconies.”
The two towers will be covered in 1,100 trees and 2,500 cascading plants, which is said to absorb 25 tons of carbon dioxide each year while simultaneously producing 130 pounds of oxygen each day. The buildings could make a huge impact on the air quality in the area.
The smaller of the two buildings will be a Hyatt Hotel, and the other will contain offices, a museum, a green architecture school, and a private club located on the roof. At the bottom of the building there will be shops, restaurants, and event space.
The architecture firm Stefano Boeri that is running the project also worked on vertical forests in Italy and Switzerland.
