New York’s Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced a plan that would connect New York to Canada by way of hiking and biking trails. The intention would be to increase tourism to other areas of New York.
“It would change the economic activity throughout the state. The Empire State Trail, once completed, will be the nation’s largest state multi-use trail network, providing residents and visitors alike unprecedented access to New York’s outdoor treasures, driving tourism and economic activity to communities across the state and helping to protect our environmental resources for generations to come.”
The trail would link together the Hudson River Valley Greenway and the Erie Canalway and will require a state budget of $53 million to be completed. The project would be completed by the year 2020.
