The public bathrooms in Tokyo’s Narita International Airport are currently stocked with “smartphone toilet wipes.”
The Japanese telecom company NTT Docomo came up with the idea, and in addition to offering the phone wipes, they also released a video about the proper way to squat on the toilet seats.
The concept behind wiping down smartphones is, of course, another step in personal hygiene, since many smartphones carry a lot of germs. The company’s website says that they can have up to five times as many germs as toilet seats, including major ones like E.coli and fecal bacteria.
Extra hand washing is generally considered a good idea throughout public travel, and wiping down those phones as well certainly won’t hurt.
The wipes are flushable and will be available until March 15.
