The United States government will now be requesting social media links from visitors who are traveling into the country in an effort to better spot people who might be involved in terrorist activity.
The visa waiver program will now ask for information about different accounts like Facebook, Google+, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Some people, however, are critical about the concept. American Civil Liberties Union chief of staff Michael W. Macleod-Ball released a statement about it.
“There are very few rules about how that information is being collected, maintained [and] disseminated to other agencies, and there are no guidelines about limiting the government’s use of that information. While the government certainly has a right to collect some information … it would be nice if they would focus on the privacy concerns some advocacy groups have long expressed.”
